'Where Lies the Strangling Fruit That Came from the Hand of the Sinner?' is a cube. A prism made of 400 ceramic tiles that refracts and distorts human knowledge, perception and language. It's a vessel for purpose, waiting to be bestowed with human touch and intention so it can reverberate and reflect back on us what we ourselves believe to be true.

We are Woo Woo Studio!

Hello and welcome to our journey! We are Woo Woo Studio, a queer art studio based in Nevada City and San Francisco, California, embarking on our first journey to have art on the Playa in Black Rock City. Follow us on Instagram for behind the scenes at the studio.

Cameron Hill is a creative engineer based in San Francisco who works with clay, wood, metal, and code.

David Allin Reese is a multi-media artist and designer residing in San Francisco, from the swamps of Florida

Benjamin Klein is a sewist, musician, and former robotics engineer creating all over San Francisco.

What's our vision?

As first-time artists at Burning Man, we aim to embody the principles of radical self-expression and communal effort.

Where Lies the Strangling Fruit That Came From the Hand of the Sinner? is a beacon of creativity and community. Inspired by the intricate beauty and mystery of language, decay, and the unknown, our piece features over 400 handmade ceramic tiles, each one crafted in our home studio in Nevada City. These tiles will come together to form a mesmerizing cubic monolith, designed to captivate and engage viewers from across the world through interactivity and an audiovisual mystery.

Each face of the cube has a touch-activated tile that activates the audio-visual experience.

What's the cube made of?

400 ceramic tiles, all designed and fired at our home studio in Nevada City
4 capacitive touch tiles that trigger the audio-visual experience
12,000 individual LEDs!

How are we powering it?

The entire project will be completely solar-powered! We'll have a battery bank providing us with 3500w of power to support lights, sound and interactivity.

We could use your help!

Bringing a project of this scale to life requires more than just vision—it needs support. Here’s how you can help make "Where Lies the Strangling Fruit" a reality:

Donations: Every contribution helps! Funds will go towards transportation to Black Rock City and supplies needed to set up, maintain, and dismantle the installation.
Volunteer: Join our build crew on the playa! We need hands to help assemble and strike the piece, as well as support with transportation of materials.
Spread the Word: Share our campaign with your network! Every share increases our visibility and potential support.
Equipment: We need a variety of equipment big and small to help bring the cube to life. Offer or help us make connections to find some of these items.
- Photography services or a Camera - professional quality to help us document the project on playa.
- Trailer or other transport - help us transport large 8ft walls to and from Playa
- Cranes or Lifts - portable cranes/lifts to help position and assemble the cube on Playa.

Special Events

To celebrate our journey and thank our supporters, we will host a viewing party in Nevada City at the beginning of August during Gay Days at the Yuba. It’s a chance to see the artwork before it heads to the playa and to meet fellow supporters and art lovers.
