Funding from this campaign directly supports SCYC’s mission to guide youth on their path to healthy adulthood. Donor contributions help sustain our programs year after year, ensuring they remain free and accessible to young people in Montezuma County. This support allows us to continue creating spaces where youth feel safe, valued, and empowered to thrive.

It begins with access. Through our free before- and after-school programs, in the 2024-25 school year more than 800 students at Mancos Schools and Montezuma-Cortez Middle School had a safe and engaging place to learn, grow, and explore. From volleyball to creative arts to outdoor adventure, youth discovered new passions while building confidence and social-emotional skills.

For middle and high schoolers, the Youth Leadership Council provided a platform for 53 young leaders to plan kindness campaigns, conduct community research, and practice advocacy. Meanwhile, 6th graders in Mancos received LifeSkills Training, equipping them with decision-making, stress management, and peer-resistance skills that reduce risky behaviors.

SCYC also reaches youth who need unique supports. At Southwest Open School, 65 students participated in enrichment clubs, while the Violet Phoenix Club created a safe, affirming space for 71 LGBTQ+ youth and allies in Towaoc. Together, these programs foster inclusion and connection.

We also help prepare youth for independence. SCYC’s new Driver’s Education program served 12 students last year and will expand to 15 students in the coming year, helping teens gain the skills and confidence to drive safely.

Across programs, the results are clear: 75% of youth feel a stronger sense of belonging, 65% report supportive relationships with caring adults, and 62% feel more empowered to make good choices. Together, we’re guiding youth toward healthy adulthood.
