At Tour de Farm, we gather for something even more meaningful.

Long before guests arrive at Barr Mansion, another story has already been unfolding. Throughout the season, Urban Roots middle and high school youth have planted, tended, and harvested food while discovering their confidence, strengthening their leadership, and learning to care for their community.

On this special evening, that harvest is placed into the hands of two of Austin's most celebrated chefs: Chef Chelsea Fadda, Pecan Square Cafe, and Chef Philip Speer, Comedor.

Chef Chelsea and Chef Philip step into a one-of-a-kind culinary competition, transforming farm-fresh ingredients into extraordinary dishes inspired by the season. But this isn't a competition judged by celebrity critics or television personalities.

The judges are Urban Roots youth.

These young leaders taste, evaluate, discuss, and ultimately crown the evening's winning chef. It's a powerful reminder that when young people are trusted with meaningful responsibility, they rise to the occasion.

And that's exactly what Urban Roots does every day.

We believe all young people deserve opportunities to discover their strengths, build leadership skills, and develop a lifelong connection to healthy food, the environment, and their community. Through paid internships, out-of-school programs, and hands-on farming experiences, young people don't just grow vegetables, but they grow confidence, purpose, and the skills to shape their own futures.
