The Cottage, Sexual Assault Center and Children’s Advocacy Center is a 501 (c) nonprofit organization that raises awareness and facilitates the healing of individuals, families, and communities affected by sexual violence and child abuse. We believe in the dignity of the individual, the ultimate right to make choices, advocacy for every person and the ability to heal.

The Cottage was created in 1974 by the Athens Feminists, a group of volunteer activists helping take a stand in response to a serial rapist. The Cottage was the first anti-sexual assault organization in Georgia and was a founding member of the Georgia Network to End Sexual Assault. The Cottage primarily serves Clarke county, but we are also a routing point for a national hotline and will assist survivors both in and outside of the state as needed.

All of our services are free, confidential, and can be accessed by calling our 24/7 crisis hotline (706-353-1912). For adults (18yrs +), we provide services to anyone who has experienced sexual violence at any time in their life. Our services include 24/7 medical and legal advocacy, crisis counseling, free trauma focused counseling referrals, support groups, and support for secondary survivors (family, friends, partners, and loved ones of that survivor). For children (17 yrs-), we provide services to all victims of child abuse including physical abuse, sexual abuse, witness to domestic violence and witness to a homicide. These services include 24/7 family & child advocacy, forensic interviews to aid the investigative process, medical advocacy, trauma focused cognitive behavioral therapy and counseling, support groups, and support for extended family members including non-offending caregivers and siblings.
