Our team is returning to Pittsburgh in late September to ride our bicycles nearly 340 miles from the Steel City to the DC area. The Champion Awareness ride aims to raise visibility of survivorship, early detection, prevention, and to honor loved ones that have succumbed to cancer. We have partnered again with the Prevent Cancer Foundation to invest in screening, prevention, and education. Please consider supporting the ride by making a charitable donation.

Before the ride starts, we spend part of the morning speaking with and thanking the oncology nurses and doctors at the Allegheny General Hospital. The work that these professionals do each day is amazing. Last year, it was humbling to learn about the challenges of patient care as we emerged from the pandemic. The kindness and resilience on display from the medical practitioners and patients is inspirational.

The ride is self-supported, which means we carry all our stuff with us. The trip looks like this:

Day 1: Our first day we pedal along the Youghiogheny River 88 miles to Confluence, PA.

Day 2: The next day we ride over the Eastern Continental Divide and then head downhill to Cumberland, MD. After 90 miles we will put our legs up in Paw Paw, WV.

Day 3: Following the Potomac River southbound, we set off on the C&O Canal Towpath 83 miles to Shepherdstown, WV.

Day 4: We take the bicycles out one last time for an 85-mile spin towards DC, calling it a day in Alexandria.
