It’s that time of year again! Beacon, Inc is hosting our 4th Annual Solidarity Sleepout on April 22nd and we’ll be doing a hybrid event!!! This means some of us will still be sleeping out in our backyards while others will be congregating in one location in community together.
Kahlil, Bodhi, and I have been involved since the beginning. With each year, our appreciation has grown for the privileges we have. It inspires us to continue working on ways that help our unhoused siblings. It's truly a humbling experience.
I am celebrating by third trip around the sun as the Chair of the Development Committee which assists in putting on this essential fundraiser. I am also a Board member for Beacon. And Kahlil and Bodhi learn more each year about what it means to be a good steward of this planet when he participates.
So, how can you help? I knew you were dying to know. 😉 We did not meet our person goal of $5,000 last year (but we were close), so we’re going to give it a go again. But we won’t make it without your help. No donation is too small, and net proceeds go directly to keeping the doors of A Friends Place open to our guests. Not sure what A Friends Place is, well don’t worry because I’m going to tell you. 😊 A Friends Place is the ONLY non-religious overnight shelter in our area. This is important because it creates less barriers to shelter which helps keep folks warm, fed, and gain access to services. Here’s how it all breaks down:
- $15 covers one night of stay for a person
- $105 covers one week of stay for a person
- $450 covers one month of stay for a person
- $675 covers the average stay for a person
