Dennis Allmand's Story
In the 1980’s I was a young kid in New Orleans. It was a carefree time of partying with friends. It was also the height of the HIV/Aids epidemic. I met so many wonderful and creative people during this time in my life. Then all of a sudden, it seemed like I was attending a funeral a week. We lost so many of those good and creative people. There was nothing and no one to help us. I do this for all the friends we lost back then and for the friends who need our help now. Hopefully one day we will have a cure.
The Joy Ride is a 2-day cycling event across Florida that raises funds for five Florida-based non-profit agencies ensuring vital resources reach those in need. Whether it's supporting housing, healthcare services, the LGBTQ+ community, mental health services, or HIV prevention, treatment, and care, every mile cycled will make a meaningful difference in peoples’ lives across the state of Florida.
As a fully supported event, The Joy Ride takes care of route planning, overnight lodging, meals, first aid, and other logistics – leaving you free to focus on the adventure! To join this incredible event as a cyclist, participants must raise a minimum of $1,200.00. Crew members are not required to fundraise, but we encourage you to set your own goals and go for it. 100% of your fundraising efforts directly benefit the five benefitting agencies.
