Hi Everyone,
I am so excited for our first-ever virtual fundraiser! We normally gather quite early on a Sunday morning in October to climb stairs together, in honor of people in recovery. This year, everyone everywhere can participate virtually, so I hope that you will! My wife and I climbed our 20 sets of stairs on a trail in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. I hope you will enjoy the view from the top!
Many of you know that addiction and mental health challenges run through my family back many generations. I climb in honor of my family members who struggled and also for those who achieved some recovery in their lives.
I also climb in honor of our clients - the pandemic has made it so much harder to maintain sobriety! People who attended daily self-help meetings could no longer due this, so the isolation has been intense. Some of our clients can see each other at our clinic and others meet in groups over Telehealth platforms, but - as for everyone - nothing is the way it used to be. So building recovery has new challenges for all our clients.
This year, I also climb in honor of our staff. Together, we re-built all of our processes - literally overnight - and we've been providing care to very vulnerable people every day since mid-March. I hope you will join me in thanking our staff for the dedication, commitment, creativity and resolve they have demonstrated every day!
I encourage you to join in this fight by doing something fun - alone or with other people in your quarantine pod. You may create your own page or send us your pics so we can post them as part of our fundraising page ([email protected]).
If your means allow, please consider supporting us financially, as every dollar counts right now.
My deepest thanks to everyone who makes this work possible,

Step Up for Recovery, PEER Service’s annual charity stair climb, aims to reduce the stigma surrounding addiction and raise funds to provide substance use disorder treatment for all in need, regardless of their ability to pay.

Stepping Up for Recovery is more important than ever this year, since stress and isolation, which so many people are experiencing, are known to increase substance use and relapse.

Due to Covid-19, Step Up for Recovery 2020 is going virtual!

Instead of climbing 20 stories at the Orrington Plaza office building, our participants will “Step Up” in their homes or communities, anytime between August 1 and October 4, to support our cause.

How to Participate

1) Join or form a team and Step Up!

By signing up, you commit to climb, run, walk, roll or cycle for Recovery. Click the blue “Participate” button above to get started!

Every participant who donates or raises $100 or more by October 4 will receive a Step Up for Recovery  t-shirt at the end of the campaign.

2) Donate!

Addiction is a treatable disease and recovery is attainable.
