I am so excited for our first-ever virtual fundraiser! We normally gather quite early on a Sunday morning in October to climb stairs together, in honor of people in recovery. This year, everyone everywhere can participate virtually, so I hope that you will! My wife and I climbed our 20 sets of stairs on a trail in Sleeping Bear Dunes National Park. I hope you will enjoy the view from the top!
Many of you know that addiction and mental health challenges run through my family back many generations. I climb in honor of my family members who struggled and also for those who achieved some recovery in their lives.
I also climb in honor of our clients - the pandemic has made it so much harder to maintain sobriety! People who attended daily self-help meetings could no longer due this, so the isolation has been intense. Some of our clients can see each other at our clinic and others meet in groups over Telehealth platforms, but - as for everyone - nothing is the way it used to be. So building recovery has new challenges for all our clients.
This year, I also climb in honor of our staff. Together, we re-built all of our processes - literally overnight - and we've been providing care to very vulnerable people every day since mid-March. I hope you will join me in thanking our staff for the dedication, commitment, creativity and resolve they have demonstrated every day!
