My brawlers journey:
I have never been in a fight. Besides punch-buggies I had never hit anybody until I began training for Brawl for a Cause. Which begs the questions, why did I sign up for a charity boxing event to begin with?
Let's start from the beginning. My wife's friend and work affiliate, Kelsi Deel of House of Cherith, shared her Brawl experience from her victorious bout at Mercedez Benz Stadium in 2018. Hearing her story captured my imagination and I was curious enough to google Brawl For A Cause and fill out the initial application. A couple of days later the founder, Matt Thomas, gave me a call and told me about Brawl's inception and his vision for the organization. After the call I knew that I wanted to engage with this organization.
The brawlers journey began with a ticket release party at Sweet Water Brewery in Atlanta where we met other potential brawlers and launched our fundraising campaigns. Matt talked about the 3 phases leading up to the Brawl:
Phase 1: selection phase- 100 potential brawlers fighting for 40 spots- 30 brawlers and 10 alternates. Selection metrics based off of fundraising and event participation.
Phase 2: Match-ups- Choosing the 30 brawlers that will compete in the Murphy ballroom at Georgia World Congress Center on April 6. Metrics based off of fundraising and event participation.
Phase 3: Sparring and training for event- final push for fundraising.
I write this entry 25 days from the event (phase 3) and am excited and thankful for the opportunity to compete in 2019 Brawl For A Cause. I have been matched up against Ryan Covert (can't wait buddy) and we will compete for three 2 minute rounds over a 60/40 split of a pot that exceeds 20k.
Ryan and I have a chance to fight in the main event of the evening, but we need your help! The top fundraisers (donations and ticket sales) will clinch the main event. We need your generous donation and/or attendance at this event!
Your donation is tax deductible- and lets be honest.. everyone likes watching a good fight.
