If you're reading this, you probably know that Miles Gray and his family lost their home to the 2025 LA wildfires. The weird nature of the para-social relationships created by podcasting immediately made me want to do something to help this man who has given us so many hours of entertainment.

Sadly, if I rebuilt his home it would almost certainly start another wildfire. But I can build prop-quality lightsabers! So here's what I'm offering. I will design a custom chassis (that's the part that holds the electronics and stuff), install, and configure a lightsaber for the winner of this auction. This includes the proffieboard-based saber, stand, battery, custom-length blade, configuration with sound fonts and blade styles of your choice, etc.

The cover photo is an example hilt I have built in the past. These lightsabers are very different from the sort you might find at disney parks or the more inexpensive ones online. Disney's hilts are larger than they should be to accomodate their twist-lock blade system. The blades themselves have far fewer LEDs, poor diffusion, and just in general look like toys. The motion sound is completely disconnected from actual motion. The inexpensive sabers are generally sold by dropshippers, are poorly constructed, much less screen accurate, and tend to have poorly installed electronic components. These are prop quality, bright, responsive hilts that draw tons of comments and compliments! Here's a quick video demo.

The winner will be able to choose from one of the empty hilts below, or can provide their own hilt for chassis design and install. Suggested switch style options, where applicable, are in the photo with each hilt, though more are available than what is pictured. Some hilts are better for hitting things with, some are fantastic cosplay hilts, some are both - it really depends on the design and how it's made. Don't worry - I'll guide you through the entire process. You're buying a complete custom experience, everything will be tailored to what you want. As such, please expect this process to take some time depending on what you're looking for. Winning this auction will not get you a lightsaber a few days later, but I promise, it'll be worth it.
