Story

Hosted by Honey Mahogany and Sister Roma, Reunion is an opportunity to gather to celebrate our vast queer past, honor the history makers who move our communities forward, and raise funds to keep LGBTQ history alive!

Traditionally held in October to coincide with LGBTQ history month, Reunion is the GLBT Historical Society's annual Gala. The 2023 event will include a reception, awards presentations, a silent auction, and the opportunity to connect with a wide range of LGBTQ history supporters.

Heklina (posthumous)

Heklina was born Steven Thor Grygelko on June 17, 1967 and moved to San Francisco in 1991. She founded T-Shack, a Tuesday midnight refuge of art, punk and drag, which became an international success and evolved into Mother in 2015.

Heklina was a San Francisco Pride Community Grand Marshal, winner of the Pride Creativity Award from the California State Senate, and was the subject of two Frameline documentaries. She dominated countless stages, including numerous Peaches Christ Productions and the iconic Golden Girls Live. Heklina passed away in April 2023 while on tour in London.

Queer Ancestors Project

The Queer Ancestors Project is devoted to forging sturdy relationships between LGBTQI people and our ancestors. Using history as a linchpin, they build community by providing Queer and Trans artists, age 18 to 26, free interdisciplinary workshops in printmaking, writing, and Queer/Trans history. Public exhibitions and readings of their work provide a window on the past through which the larger community can glimpse our collective future.

About the GLBT Historical Society

Founded in 1985, the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender (GLBT) Historical Society is recognized internationally as a leader in the field of LGBTQ public history. Our operations are centered around two sites: our GLBT Historical Society Museum, located since 2011 in the heart of San Francisco’s Castro neighborhood; and our Dr. John P. De Cecco Archives and Research Center, open to researchers in the Mid-Market district.
