Chili for a Cure: Unite for Lucas

Get ready to bring the heat for a great cause! On Saturday, February 21 , 2026, Tin Roof BBQ will host Chili for a Cure: Unite for Lucas, bringing together community, family, and friends to support critical research for the very rare genetic syndrome Tatton Brown Rahman Syndrome (TBRS).

At the heart of this event is Lucas Richter, son of Kacee and Bobby and grandson to Tin Roof BBQ owners Ronnie and Nancy Webber. Lucas was diagnosed with TBRS at just 3 years old. This rare genetic condition affects only about 450 people worldwide, causing overgrowth, intellectual disabilities, and serious health risks. Lucas’ story reminds us all why research, awareness, and community support matter so deeply.

Enter the Cook-Off

Details on the Cook-Off:

Date: Saturday, February 21, 2026
Where: parking lot at Tin Roof BBQ; 18918 Town Center Blvd, Humble 77346
Cooks can start arriving at 7:00 am to set up and prepare their best chili recipe on-site.
Any type of Chili is fine (red, green, beans, no beans, whatever you want - just cook your best!)
Chili must be cooked/mixed on-site; cannot bring in premade chili (we will check ingredients)
- We are not completely complying with ICS rules.
- Most ingredients may not be pre-cooked in any way prior to the commencement of the official cooking time.
  - The only exceptions:
    - You CAN pre-cook (not cut/chop/grind) any meat, smoke jalapenos/spices, etc. (as it might be difficult to bring appliances, etc).
    - Canned vegetables, sauces, pepper sauces, liquids, seasoning pastes and meat substitutes can be pre-made.
    - Grinding and/or mixing of dry spices is allowed prior to the event.
    - All of these items need to be marked in separate containers for inspection.
  - All other ingredients must be prepared, added, and/or chopped on-site during the preparation period.
  - The preparation period begins when cooks arrive on-site for the competition.
  - Garnishes are not allowed.
- All food - whether stored, resting or cooking - must always be maintained at food-safe temperatures. Food temperatures are subject to inspection at any time.

Each participant will have a 10x10 space for their tent, table, and cooking area (you bring all of your materials).
- Tin Roof can supply 1 - 6ft table per team (depending on final team count; possibly 2 tables per team)
- Propane and BBQ pits are allowed. (let me know if you are bringing a large BBQ pit)
11am to 2pm will be our "community" portion of the Fundraiser. If you would like to participate (I kindly encourage your team to partake), please make enough chili so our customers/guests can try. Tin Roof will supply the spoons and small sample dishes. The "customer" will provide a nominal donation (of their choosing) and receive a sample from each team, then vote on their favorite chili. We will have LIVE music, Twinkles the Clown making animal balloons, playground will be open, dozens of Silent Auction baskets (which are live now online for bidding ends 2pm on 2/21), Noonday will be here selling their collection and giving back to TBRS as well. Hoping to have a fire truck from AFD.
Chili turn in (3 servings) will be promptly at 1PM. (anonymous turn in; Tin Roof to supply the turn in bowls)

Judging Criteria: aroma, taste, texture, appearance, and aftertaste.
Scoring System: scoring system 1-10, where 10 is the highest score.
Comments: judges will write comments under each score to provide feedback.

Winners:
1st Place: $500; 2nd Place $300; 3rd Place $100
People's Choice: the public (customers) can taste each cookoff team (with donation). Then vote on their favorite chili. We will do a 50/50 between the Peoples Choice Winner and TBRS Community.
