I began working with the Castaways about a decade ago to honor a dear friend of mine, Sune Smith, who was battling cancer and tragically passed away with so much of her life ahead. Since that time, it has touched other members of my family and community. It is tragic when the options treatment aren't strong enough compared to the illness. Currently, my aunt is receiving treatment and progressing very well. But every time she steps into the treatment center, the nerves grow. These are the moments we wish to remove.
I know this illness affects many of us in a multitude of ways. As the reach of the Castaways continues to grow I am also fundraising for those who I haven't met yet but are devoting time and energy during their treatment.
Every time that I get on my bike, I try to imagine the struggles of cancer treatment. When it's tough you must keep on pushing. Our hope is that one day soon treatment will be more accessible and more successful.
