I am the Director of Development for Slant’d, a nonprofit independent publishing house and creative home for AAPIs that nurtures self discovery, creative expansion, and meaningful connection. What I love most about Slant’d is working with this passionate community of creatives and volunteer badasses. Working at Slant'd over the past year has inspired me to connect with my inner child and create again.
I became involved with Slant’d because… I am Taiwanese-Chinese American (she/her), the first daughter of immigrants, and a proud Bay Area native from Oaktown. I have always loved art and the creative world, but had a super hard time thinking there was space for me and my stories. I have worked for nonprofits since 2012, and am looking to build a strong community at and for Slant’d because I feel like I’ve been looking for somewhere to belong since I was a child and want to create a home for people in this space.
11.13.2024 why slant'd
i think i was always weird,
always stuff i wanted to make..
but my immigrant single dad
worked three jobs for my sake.
so i couldn't become a painter
even though that's what i loved to do
engineer, doctor, lawyer
dad, i'll be a scientist for you.
i lost that part of myself
for quite a bit of time
the little who loved to draw,
loved to create, loved to rhyme.
finally coming back to me
as i enter middle age?
life is loving what you do
and i want love to take center stage. ♡
