if you know me, you know that I've had a radio show on a community station in Laguna Beach, California - KXFM 104.7, for going on 10 years now. The station started going through changes as we came through the pandemic, and never quite recovered. A little over a year ago, the last paid member of staff left the station, and to keep a long story short, I dove into the deep end and took over the operations of the station. Hit me up if you want more of the story, but suffice to say, it has been a major part of my life for the last year.
It's been a couple years since I've put out a call to donate to KXFM, but this year is different: we have a new station owner, a new exciting direction, a massive influx of community volunteers, and a plan to move the location of the facilities down the road into a place that will be more integrated with the community itself, inviting even more involvement with this little radio station.
I will be joined on the air by my friend Pamela Knudsen - Laguna's own 'Cat Lady in the Canyon', on Friday, November 15th from 9am-10am. Pamela is an active member of our community, involved with the Bluebell Foundation for Cats and the Laguna Beach Business Club, among others. She is a children's book author, a music lover, and an avid KX listener. She has a very compelling story about what community radio, and in particular KXFM, has meant to her; you will have to tune into KX on 11/15 from 9 to 10 to hear her tell that story.
KXFM is a non-profit, community and listener supported low power radio station (available over the air only in Laguna Beach, but streamed world-wide at kxfmradio.org), and depends upon the generosity and support of the community that we serve. I have donated a lot of time and money in the past year to keep this station alive and on the air, and I would hate for those efforts to be for naught. So here it is: I would like for you to help me help keep this important community resource alive and thriving.
