I was first-generation in my family to attend college. I feel fortunate every day for that opportunity and the impact it created in my life. Early on, my mother made it clear to my late brother and me that we would go to college for a chance at a better life (i.e. more economically sustainable) -- the type of life that she and my father did not have. And even if they had enjoyed the benefits of higher education, my parents also lacked key social connections (social capital) that often results in additional upward economic mobility in this world. At LEAP, students are connected early on to many valuable adult relationships that exist outside of their home network. LEAP's students, starting in middle school, truly inspire me. Their interest areas, passions, plans for the future -- not just to create a unique educational and career plan for themselves to enrich their own lives, but to impact their families and communities, both regionally and globally. Our students deserve the same high-quality opportunities and resources that some peers enjoy more readily. They deserve to achieve their dreams, to find rich, rewarding lives and lasting self-sufficiency. These are some of the countless reasons I support LEAP. All of LEAP's programs and opportunities are offered 100% free of charge to the students and their families.
