I'm Bowling for a BIG Cause!

I just wanted to take a second and see if you’d support a cause and initiative that is really important to me. Every year, the folks at Big Brothers Big Sisters have an event called Bowl for Kids’ Sake that raises money to help kids in our area who need someone in their corner. As a [Big and now Board Member ], I’ve been able to see amazing things happen when a kid gets involved in BBBS.

[I've been matched with Calvin for almost 8 years! I'm proud to see that Calvin is a Senior High Honor Student, Served on the Year book committee, Works Part-Time, and Volunteers for the BBBS Littles Leadership Council. Calvin is aspiring to be a Veterinarian and has been accepted to several colleges ]. We are all excited to see which college Calvin selects!

What does BBBS do?

Our mission is to create professionally supported one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth in our community. We are differentiated from other mentoring organizations by providing professional support through the duration of the match.

What do the Bigs do for their Littles?

The ultimate goal is to help our kids make progress and experience achievement in their lives and to focus on the potential of the kid. Our Big/Little relationships focus on achieving growth in 3 main areas:

• - Building social skills
• - Increasing academic achievement
• - Creating healthy lifestyles

Why does this matter?

Mentoring matches help kids discover who they are, cultivate their abilities to shape their own lives, and learn how to engage with and contribute to the world around them!

We aim to empower more kids in our community to make positive choices and reach their full potential through the influence of a committed and positive mentor

Most of our Little’s demographics include low-to-moderate income families and a high percentage of families are also single parent households, therefore, the power of a positive role model can mean the world to our Littles who might not already have one!

Currently, 1 in 3 young people grow up without a positive role model, leaving them vulnerable to isolation and adversity. Big Brothers Big Sisters is working hard to create more mentoring relationships, and I am proud to support their efforts!
