Malia Montgomery's Story

As many know malia has been on her scoliosis journey for about 7 years now. She was in a brace for years, wearing it 20 to 23 hours a day! Even sleeping in it. She’s always been a trooper. In May is when we found out it was time for her big surgery. We always knew it was coming. The brace wasn’t to prevent the surgery more to prevent surgery at such a young age. They needed her to grow a bit more. In the 1 month we’re waiting for her surgery date her curve got almost 10 degrees worse. They require surgery anytime after 50 degrees. Her curve at surgery date was 60 and 67 with an S curve. We are now 3 months post op and she is doing amazing! But let me tell you, those first 6 weeks were the toughest, hardest most emotional times of our lives!! When the say it’s the 2nd most painful surgery I can believe it!! Malia is the toughest girl I know but there times when she said she can’t do this. The pain was awful. There was so many tears on both ends. Me wondering if I did the right thing putting her through this. Feeling helpless as a mother just wanting to take her pain away. Sleeping in her room for 2 weeks getting up every couple hours like I had a newborn to help her with meds and to readjust. And I know as hard as it was for me it was 1000X harder for her😔. The emotional toll it took on her was not something I was not expecting. Lots of tears of just wanting to feel like herself again and the frustration of not being able to move how she used to and needing help. My whole point of sharing this is the kids going through this need all the comfort they can get at such a hard time in their life. So if we can help a kids or teenager receive a free higgy bear during their scoliosis journey, we would love that! The bears are either wearing a brace or you can get one with a spinal fusion scar. How cute🥹❤️ If you are able to donate any amount it would mean so much to us both!! Your donation helps kids receive a free Higgy bear of their choice🧸💚

Thank you again so much for all of your help. I went through and adjusted everyone's sales for the wrapping paper fundraiser and combined them with this fundraiser. The Higgy Holiday Fundraiser will end 12/1, and will only continue through this website through the month of November. (The wrapping paper portion has ended.)
