Hello!
Like many of the staff of Cancer Care Services, this mission is personal to me. When I came to work here 7 years ago, I had a solid “why” and reason for resonating to the mission. I heard the words “your daughter has cancer” when my daughter Laura was 5 years old. It was early August and we were in the excited season of preparing her for kindergarten…buying school clothes and school supplies and looking forward to “meet the teacher” night. My son, Patrick was about to turn 4 and I was literally 9 months pregnant with my son, Troy.
Laura was diagnosed on August 2nd…Troy was born on August 10th….Laura started 54 weeks of chemotherapy on August 12th…and Patrick was caught in the confusing middle of “who is this new tiny human?…and what is happening to my sister and best friend?”
Today, all three of my children are grown and thriving adults. I give thanks for that everyday. Unfortunately, the trauma of cancer has touched other family members that I love dearly in the past 3 years.
Through all of these cancer journeys, my family has been blessed by excellent care, good health insurance, steady income and supportive family ties. None of us were alone. I am well aware that not everyone has this support system and I am humbled by that knowledge.
Grateful for Cancer Care Services and the impact this organization has in Tarrant County! I am proud of the work being done and by our dedicated staff! There is so much love, empathy and compassion that fuels our flames to keep moving forward!
Grateful for YOU!
