"Alice in the Moonlight"
I have always enjoyed fashion and am pleased to be part of American Mural Project’s Recycled Runway. My goal is to raise $1500 to benefit American Mural Project’s educational programming to support diversity, equality, and inclusivity in our communities. Half of my raised proceeds will also benefit the School at Jacob’s Pillow, where young dancers from all over the world have the opportunity to train on scholarship and launch their careers. I was one of those students in the 1970’s and am forever grateful!
The photo above is the first fitting with model Iris Courchaine, who has studied ballet with me. I have discarded most of the former decorative details from the dress. Iris will wear the vintage red satin shoes, circa 1920’s, in the fashion show.

In cleaning out my costume storage and preparing to take things to the dump, realized I could use these old fabrics, worn and torn ballet tutus, and boxes of buttons, broken jewelry, and other sundries for my runway design. My new creation will be titled “Alice in the Moonlight” and refers to the main character in the story of Alice in Wonderland.
Model Iris Courchaine is showing the back of the dress. Both Iris and I wear size 0, and I panicked when I realized that neither of us could zip up the back. I think the dress actually looks nice backless. A few flowers have been added. I didn’t have any blue flowers but realized that a light blue Sharpie pen could easily be used to “paint” white ones. Two tattered ruffled dance skirts are serving as under-skirts to give the dress fullness and flounce.
