Caroline McWithey's Story
Hi! Thank you for wanting to learn more about Debriefing the Front Lines (DTFL). I have been a nurse going on 5 years, working in many different areas of the hospital. Throughout my career, I have grown to love nursing and have cared for many lovely patients, and worked with many wonderful people. My compassion towards others and desire to help those in need is fulfilled by being a nurse. Our broken healthcare system, short staffing, and lack of needed resources has caused a lot of burn out, heart ache and compassion fatigue. Debriefing the Frontlines has offered me much needed reminders that I am not alone; there is hope, and I can find my way back to the nurse I want to be. My mentor and Executive Director of DTFL, Tara, helps me think through tough experiences at work and gives me resources to re-center my thinking. One of my favorite activities Tara initiated, was a build your own bouquet event. A group of nurses gathered to share a meal, connect and enjoy beautiful blooms. This is just one way Debriefing the Frontlines works to heal us healers and bring the joy and compassion back into nurses, such as myself.
