Hey! My name is Will Weitlauf and I’m a second year Accounting student here at WKU. I’m very honored to be serving in the role of Bookkeeper for Team 13. I grew up in Richmond, Kentucky and graduated from Madison Central High School. Growing up, my dad picked up cycling as a hobby to stay in shape. Despite him and I going on a few rides together, I failed to see the appeal until recently. Alongside Bike4Alz, I am one of my fraternity’s mental health chairs. I am hoping to use skills I’ve picked up from that role to ensure morale never gets low!
While I have been fortunate not to have witnessed Alzheimer’s firsthand, I have had to deal with several losses of loved ones to cancer. I remember the lengths my MiMi went to make sure none of us grandkids found out her diagnosis because she wanted us to enjoy the time we still had together. A couple years after she sadly passed, my Popop was also diagnosed with cancer and passed away after a good fight. I feel for any family that has had to witness any form of terminal illness, which is why I felt Bike4Alz was right for me. With that being said, I would not be here without the people around that have always pushed me to do more. Whether that is my family, girlfriend, fraternity brothers, or anyone else in my circle, I can count on them to push me to new heights, and I’ll always be thankful for that.
