Our values

From interviews to team shoutouts to performance reviews, we weave our values into everything we do.
They're the ABCs of Givebutter: be Awesome, be Butter, and be Changemakers.

Be Awesome ๐Ÿคฉ

  • We go above and beyond to surprise and delight our customers.
  • We raise the bar by setting ambitious goals and striving to exceed them.
  • We hold ourselves to a high standard.
  • We consistently push ourselves to level up and expect the same from others.
  • We foster a high-performance culture and believe in mentorship both in and outside the workplace.
When people think of our
team, our product, and our mission, one simple word
should always come to mind: โ€œAwesome.โ€
Be your best, most authentic self. Being yourself is the best way to form meaningful relationships, which are integral to happiness in life and work.

Be Butter ๐Ÿงˆ

  • We view diversity as an asset. Having diverse voices at the table drives innovation, strengthens decision-making, improves collaboration, and fosters empathy for our users.
  • We lead with kindness and empathy.
  • We build trust with transparency and reliability.
  • We ask for feedback, assume positive intent, and default to over-communication.
  • We like to have fun! And bring the puns. Seriously, weโ€™re always bready. ๐Ÿž

Be Changemakers ๐Ÿ’›

  • We seek out and embrace change. Itโ€™s what we do!
  • We make our impact feltโ€”globally, locally, personally, and professionally.
  • We move fast and believe in progress over perfection. Done is better than perfect.
  • We leverage collective genius and let the best ideas win.
    1+1=3 ๐Ÿš€
Changemakers have a bias toward action and proactively work to improve the environment around them.

See how we prioritize DEI

At Givebutter, we view diversity as an asset and and are committed to fostering diversity, equity, and inclusion. Below are a number of ways that we put these words into action.

Diversity

  • We post all new roles on job boards that serve historically marginalized people, such as Diversity Jobs, InHerSight, Diversity for Social Impact, Black Tech Pipeline, and the Mom Project.
  • We monitor and share the progress of diversity initiatives by tracking Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) data.
  • We require annual training for all staff on the topics of diversity and inclusion in the workplace, harassment and discrimination, and recognizing and managing workplace bias. All courses provided through our PEO platform, Justworks.
  • We highlight campaigns and success stories from diverse users in our content.
  • We plan internal and external programs that feature diverse voices.
  • We purchase employee gifts from companies that partner with minority businesses, such as Bold xChange

Equity

  • We follow the same interview process for all candidatesโ€”whether internal or external.
  • We do not rely on AI automation to screen for applicants in our ATSโ€”our People team and the hiring committee screen all applicants.
  • We require an average of 10 people (15% of the company) to review candidates throughout the hiring process.
  • We intentionally wrote the ย Givebutter Manual to be easy to read and free of legal jargon, and we share it with candidates during the interview process.
  • We highlight inequities in philanthropic giving in our programs and content and create and promote active ways to make change. For example, during Black Philanthropy Month 2022, Givebutter donated $20K to Black-led nonprofits and helped raise over $350K for Black-led campaigns.

Inclusion

  • We write our benefits with modern definitions of demographics, such as primary and secondary caregivers in our parental leave policy.
  • We default toward sharing information in public channels across our various communication platforms.
  • We offer two additional floating holidays for employees to use for celebrations not represented in the current 11 federally recognized holidays (all of which we take off).
  • We host work events that are nondenominational and accessible for people of all ability levels.
  • We conduct standardized bi-annual Performance Reviews in which employees evaluate themselves and their managers.

Love where you work

Join a company that is mission-driven and award-winning (in that order).

It feels good coming to work (remotely) every day to help nonprofits do more good in the world! With so many stagnant tech companies in the nonprofit fundraising space, it is refreshing to be a part of a product-led growth company that is obsessed with innovating rapidly based on user feedback. Our culture is fun, diverse, and accepting, and each team member has a good amount of autonomy for how they reach their goals.
