Since 2022, Givebutter has proudly participated in the global celebration of Black Philanthropy Month (BPM), lifting up Black changemakers while joining the call for more equitable, sustainable funding for Black-led nonprofits.

To make an even bigger impact in our fifth year, we expanded our Givebutter Gives Back commitment to $20K, matching 5% of donations made to all eligible Black-led nonprofits in August. More funds and more organizations meant more opportunities for impact, with each qualifying donation generating greater support for every Black-led cause.

BackBlack, which houses the global Black Philanthropy Month initiative, provided an eligibility framework and connected nonprofits to more funding opportunities, resources, and visibility throughout the month.

Here’s how it worked:

  • Black-led nonprofits created a campaign or continued existing fundraising efforts on Givebutter.
  • Participating organizations verified their Black-led status through the BackBlack directory.
  • Eligible donations made during August and settled in Givebutter Wallet received a 5% match, capped at $500 if the total funds raised exceeded $20K.

Black Philanthropy Month 2026 in review

Black Philanthropy Month is a multifaceted movement that honors the rich history of giving within the global African diaspora, recognizes Black leadership in philanthropy and nonprofits, and calls for funding equity and greater investment in Black communities by institutional funders and all who give.

With hundreds of Black-led nonprofits participating in Givebutter’s BPM campaign this year, we were blown away by the community support that changemakers mobilized.

Eligible nonprofits raised more than $589K between August 1 and 31, and Givebutter ultimately matched $22.7K, for a grand total of $610K+ collectively donated to 222 Black-led nonprofits!

Many voices. One movement.

The theme for BPM 2026 was “Many Voices. One Movement.” The following groups represent just a slice of the incredible array of diverse causes and missions in the community of Black-led organizations we’re proud to serve here at Givebutter.

Black Mamas Village 🫶🏿

Based in Austin, TX, Black Mamas Village (BMV) has grown from a small Facebook Group into a vibrant village that provides essential support and resources to over 3,000 Black mothers.

🖤 We Got Us: BMV launched a special Black Philanthropy Month campaign, calling on supporters to “help continue a legacy of Black generosity, collective care, and community.”

Braata Productions 🎶

When Andrew Clarke moved to New York, Caribbean culture in mainstream theater was often reduced to steelpan and palm trees. So he built something truer: Braata Productions is a cultural home where Caribbean elders feel remembered, and artists feel seen.

Soul Food Project 🌽

The Soul Food Project (SFP) works to build a diverse community of young people and adults who collaborate to build sustainable, equitable food systems across Indianapolis, IN. They provide free year-round education, meaningful jobs for teens, and fresh, healthy food for their neighbors.

🖤 Give Black: SFP’s donation page shares several ways supporters can contribute, from monthly giving to corporate donation matching and sponsorships.

B.R.O. Experience Foundation 🫂

The B.R.O. Experience Foundation is a youth wellness organization in Brooklyn, NY, dedicated to the holistic development of young men of color through a range of programs, including “Behind the Bars,” which focuses on healing through music and poetry.

Center for Common Ground ☑️

Center for Common Ground is a national, nonpartisan, Black woman-led organization that connects with and mobilizes voters “who still feel unseen, unheard, and overlooked.” Last year, they reached over 1 million voters across several states and doubled Black voter engagement in Virginia.

🖤 Give Black: CCG is currently working to raise $150K for their voter engagement efforts with a team fundraising campaign

Keep the momentum going

We’re proud to be the fundraising home for so many incredible Black changemakers, and we hope everyone will join us in celebrating and investing in Black nonprofit leadership not only in August but all year long.
