Givebutter is WAIVING platform fees for the rest of 2020 💛

Givebutter is fortunate from its vantage point as a fundraising platform to have witnessed firsthand the incredible outpouring of support from nonprofits, community groups, and individuals during these unprecedented times. As part of our efforts to support these groups, we have been selectively waiving Givebutter’s platform fees for a number of relief campaigns. These efforts have shown such significant success that today, we are thrilled to be able to offer the same option to the entire Givebutter community.

Every Givebutter campaign created between June 1, 2020 and December 31, 2020 will have 0% Givebutter platform fees for life. If you already created a campaign prior to June 1st, your fees will be waived for the remainder of 2020 as well. We hope that this adjusted pricing will further enable the incredible communal rallying that has already flowed through our platform, and will encourage those considering how they can support a cause to feel that they have a transparent and feature-rich fundraising platform at their fingertips.

What are platform fees, and what percentage were they before this change?

Platform fees are a percentage fee charged by Givebutter on all transactions, depending upon the product used. Prior to June 1st, those fees were 1% for Collect, 2% for Fundraise, and 3% for Events, along with the option to "tip" Givebutter. Now, all of those fees will be 0% while tips are enabled! Wondering what tips are? More on that below...

I’m still seeing a credit card processing fee of 2.9% – I thought all fees were zero?

Unfortunately, not all fees are in our control. Credit card companies like Visa and American Express, and payment processors like Stripe and PayPal, still take 2.9% + 30¢ of all transactions processed – the standard rate for any credit card purchase in daily life. But don’t worry, Givebutter will still ask every supporter to cover these fees so your campaign keeps the most funds possible. You even now have the option to require these fees, or hide them altogether.

Woohoo! I’ve got 0% fees! But what’s this “Tip to Givebutter”?

Givebutter's free plan with every feature is made possible through the generosity of individuals who leave a tip for Givebutter when supporting a campaign. These tips go directly towards keeping Givebutter’s fees as low as possible (0%!) and enabling us to continue providing innovative tools for fundraising success. We appreciate when your supporters can support us, too; but it’s completely optional.

I get it, but I’m not sure I want Tips on my campaign.

We completely understand. Because of the way our pricing structure works, we are only able to offer 0% platform fees if the Tip to Givebutter option is visible on your campaign page. If you would like to remove tips, you can now opt to do so right from your dashboard. Note that additional platform fees of 1% for Collect, 3% for Fundraise, and 5% for Events will apply based on campaign type.

What happens after December 31st?

Our hope is to continue providing 0% platform fees forever. However, if this new model turns out to be unsustainable, we plan to return to our previous model of 1%, 2%, 3% plus tips, and require a Givebutter Pro or Premium subscription for the option to remove tips (for an additional fee). But don't worry! Any campaigns you create between June 1, 2020 – December 31, 2020 will have 0% platform fees enabled for life. And if you've already created a campaign prior to June 1, 2020, then your campaign's platform fee will be reduced to 0% while tips are enabled for the the remainder of 2020, at a minimum.
